My flower girls Regie and Trina and I enjoyed the experience, and I personally had a blast, having been able to wear my wedding gown again. :) Enjoy!!! Special thanks to FWDP, Sir Shanon Pamaong, and of course, the ever-dependable and talented Owee Salva for the great photographs. :)

I'm very thankful that I was able to choose well when it came to the designer who would be executing my once-in-a-lifetime wedding dress. With the recommendation of my friend Johanna Regalado (thanks so much, girl!), I went to check out Mr. Shanon Pamaong of the Fashion Institute of the Philippines. He is a Fashion Designer and Fashion Educator, and the Chairman of Fashions by Wedding Designers of the Philippines (FWDP). I borrowed some words his school, Fashion Institute of the Philippines, used to describe the man responsible for my wedding gown, the dresses of my mother and mother-in-law, and the dresses of my flower girls: "Canadian-Filipino fashion designer Shanon Pamaong has gained years of experience working with manufacturers and designers in Toronto and New York, and the ready-to-wear and haute couture houses in the fashion capital of the world ---Paris. He has taught in international fashion schools and has his own design business. He shares his knowledge in professional world-class techniques at the Fashion Institute." In his school, they offer the following courses: 1.Basic Fashion Design 2. Basic Pattern Making 3. Children's Wear 4. Menswear 5. Fashion Accessories 6. Fashion Merchandising 7. Basic Sewing 8. Advance Fashion Illustration 9. Advance Pattern-Making 10. Haute Couture Techniques 11. Advanced Sewing It was a joy for me to share with him my idea of what I wanted my wedding dress to look like, and have him contribute his own unique and creative inputs. I had previously purchased the cloth and fabric that I wanted for the ladies in my entourage to use for their respective dresses (for the maid of honor, bridesmaids, and female secondary sponsors, specifically), and it was sky-blue and lavender georgette with a distinct fleur de liz design. I showed the material to Sir Shanon and from there, we discussed what colors we wanted for the mothers' dresses and the flower girls. I appreciated that he also wanted to make use of the colors from the same color family...therefore the blues, purples, and pinkish hues were truly going to make a statement as we walked down the aisle. Sir Shanon really made it a wonderful journey for me, sharing with me the details of how he constructed a particular part of my dress, and patiently entertained my questions and comments with open-mindedness and honesty. I'm also pleased to note that our mothers had a lot of praise to offer Sir Shanon when he let them fit their dresses, and to my surprise and joy, even my little flower girls gasped in delight when they tried on their dresses. I have never been one to try and do what everyone else was doing, and I have always enjoyed the fact that simple is and can be beautiful. I was going for understated elegance and simple but ethereal (which is defined as "unusual lightness and delicacy") and when I saw the final outcome of my dress, I was truly filled with an anticipation and an excitement, and also half-thinking, "I certainly hope my groom will find me beautiful," because trying it on made me feel really beautiful. Feel free to check out their website http://www.fashioninstitutephil.com/. I'm so very proud of my wedding gown designer, Sir Shanon Pamaong, and very pleased in the choice I made. :) He isn't BEST ORIGINAL DESIGNER for Philippine FASHION WEEK 2007 for nothing.

A year and a half ago,my uncle Ricky from the States told my Mom that he made a personal vow for himself to provide for the wedding dresses of all of his nieces. So when the time came that I became engaged, he readily reminded me of that vow. But he told me that he would allow me to make a choice as to where I would go and whom I wanted to do my wedding gown.
I agreed with him that it would be nice to have a little mystery, so I really decided not to tell anybody about any information about my wedding dress, until after our big day.
I wanted my wedding designer to be low-key and yet fabulous, and very true to my personality,I didn't want to go where most have gone. I wanted to explore, but didn't really have to look far for the creative universe to point me in the right direction.
When I got engaged, Johanna, the wife of my friend Niño Regalado, (this couple has always been wonderful to me, and I have always appreciated their family. Niño also happens to be my bandmate Junjun's brother) suggested that I try checking out her design mentor, Mr. Shanon Pamaong, from the Fashion Institute of the Philippines.
And so I did. I had a clear idea of what I wanted as a wedding gown design, but was very thankful to have had the freedom to present it to someone as open-minded and very creative as Sir Shanon. He embellished my idea with his own wonderful insights, and I could only gawk at how elegant and beautiful my wedding dress turned out to be.
False modesty is pride, so I am glad to share that I truly think that the way it turned out was even more wonderful than I expected...I like keeping things simple and classic yet eyecatching, and I was very firm in sharing with him that I wanted it to be more of lace than anything else.
My trips to the Fashion Institute of the Philippines have been wonderful... my wedding designer, Sir Shanon, exceeded my expectations, especially in terms of making my dress a perfect fit, and keeping a keen eye on intricate detail.
As Director of the Fashion Institute of the Philippines, he has educated and opened doors for many young designers. (Check my blog page for more information about Sir Shanon, and what we both worked on for my Wedding Trosseau.) :) |
